Rovies is a charming seaside village in the Municipality of Mantoudi–Limni–Agia Anna, located on the northwest coast of Evia between Limni and Aidipsos. With a population of about 940 people, it’s the third largest settlement in the area and one of the most loved holiday destinations in North Evia for families and nature lovers.
The village lies on the coastal road connecting Aidipsos with Limni, about 9 km from the Monastery of Saint David and only 15 minutes from Aidipsos. Its location by the calm waters of the Evian Gulf makes it perfect for a relaxing seaside stay and a great base for exploring the region.
Rovies has been inhabited continuously since prehistoric times. In 427 BC, as mentioned by Thucydides, the area was hit by a powerful tidal wave. The ancient name of the settlement was Oriviai. During the Middle Ages, Rovies gained importance and passed under the control of the Franks, Venetians, Ottomans, and later the Greeks, each leaving their mark on its architecture and culture.
The village’s landmark is the Medieval Tower of Rovies, standing proudly above the sea. Originally built by the Franks, it was later used and expanded by Venetians, Ottomans, and Greeks. The tower is well-preserved and offers visitors a glimpse into the layered history of Northern Evia.
Rovies features a beautiful beach with clear, shallow waters and small pebbles — ideal for swimming, family holidays, and camping. The area is surrounded by olive groves and forest paths leading to hidden coves and panoramic viewpoints. Its peaceful atmosphere makes it a perfect escape for travelers seeking authenticity and calm.
In the center of the village, you’ll find Iliahtida Apartments — comfortable seaside accommodation ideal for couples, families, or solo travelers exploring North Evia. The property offers easy access to Limni, Aidipsos, the Monastery of Saint David, and nearby beaches. For reservations, call (+30) 22270 71242 or (+30) 210 9411021.
